Why am I attracted to darker girls?

Okay, back in the day I was really turned on by gothic chicks, pale girls with dark clothing. Now a days I find myself crushing on darker women, that mostly wear colorful summer dresses and such I myself am light skinned. It's hard for me to catch a tan. So is it preference? Wondering how my tastes could have changed?
