Something better than flash player?

This player has worked pretty good for me for a long time, but in the last few months, it has been crashing so much and at a random times it's really starting to annoy me. It's also annoying that they keep posting upgrades that don't fix the problem and go even slower. I am not computer savvy, but from what I heard HMTL5 is the new and rising player, is there a site to download it or is it just an software that is meant for changing the entirety of internet browsing?
