Hey! got a question or two about windows live essentials 2011.?

since I am not happy with it,I was wondering if i could switch to the older version.if yes,how? im doubtful about it because just prior to upgrading, it notified me about the update and would'nt allow me to signin unless i upgrade.So once i uninstall it,is it going to behave the same way? and i also wanted to know if you control who all can see your friends on the messenger.
