Is it worth getting an iphone now when a new one is coming out soon? upgrading?

im in desperate need of a new phone. ive had this one for 2 years and it really sucks! ive been wanting an iphone and now i can get one but i hear a new one is coming out but no one really knows when. should i just get it now. could i upgrade later? how does that work?
